Atiq Ahmed murder , a former Samajwadi Party MP and reputed criminal, and his brother Ashraf were shot in front of television cameras in Allahabad City on Saturday night. After the shooting, all three of the suspects dropped their pistols.
“Jai Shri Ram, Jai Shri Ram” and “Surrender karte hain, Surrender karte hain (I surrender, I surrender)” were both yelled by one of the accused. The other two did not attempt to flee as they raised their arms above their heads.
The two dozen police officers on the scene, who were escorting the brothers but had stood by helplessly as two men in their custody were shot and killed outside a hospital in 44 frantic seconds, rapidly subdued the group.
According to police sources, the suspects, Luvlesh Tiwari, 23, Sunny Singh, 24, and Arun Maurya, 25, come from low-income households in the districts of Banda, Hamirpur, and Kasganj, respectively. They are part-time history sheeters. Two further individuals who were with them, according to the police, fled following the gunshot.
On his Facebook profile, Luvlesh describes himself as the Bajrang Dal’s joint security commander in Banda district, but a Bajrang Dal representative acknowledged this was inaccurate.
Atiq Ahmed murder suspect hands himself
The motivation for the murder or potential conspirators have not been discussed by the authorities. However, a veteran police officer claimed that the alleged murderers were amateurs and that a strong person had to be responsible for them.
The suspects’ docile surrender and the daring of the public executions showed that someone in a position of authority had provided them protection, according to reports.
According to a police source who requested anonymity, Atiq Ahmed murder informed investigators on Friday that a significant arms dealer who operates in both India and Pakistan had been in contact with him for a long time and was also well-known to several top politicians.
If he was treated nicely, he had offered to give the identities, the officer claimed.
Suresh Khanna, the state’s minister of finance, commented on the double homicide by saying: “Some choices are made in heaven. Whatever occurred was determined in heaven as “kudrat’s (nature’s) justice.”
Even while the administration has been mum regarding the source of the threat, the security details of numerous ministers, including deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, have been improved.
A three-member judicial investigation into the murders on Saturday has been ordered by the chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
Burial
Atiq Ahmed murder and Ashraf were buried beside Atiq’s son Asad, who had been slain by the police in an alleged encounter near Jhansi on Thursday, in the Kasari Masari graveyard in Allahabad on Sunday. Mohammad Harun, Atiq’s father-in-law, was present for the funeral.
For the last five years, Atiq Ahmed murder and Ashraf have been incarcerated awaiting trial for the 2005 murder of BSP lawmaker Raju Pal. They had been brought into police custody last week for interrogation in relation to the murder of Umesh Pal on February 28, 2023, a lawyer and prosecution witness in the murder of Raju Pal.
Additionally, they have lately been accused of having ties to the extremist organisation Lashkar-e-Toiba, the Pakistani arms trader, and the ISI, an intelligence organisation in Pakistan. When they were slain, they had been sent to a hospital for a checkup.
The special task force squad shot and killed Asad on Thursday, who was suspected of killing Umesh.
The suspects
According to police sources, all three suspects had previously served time in prison and were currently free on bail.
Speaking to reporters outside his home in Kyotara, Banda, Luvlesh’s father Yagya Tiwari said: “He was just freed from prison after being sentenced Atiq Ahmed murder a few years ago for hitting a female. He returned home six days ago before departing. He never provided any personal information to us.
Arun is from the Kasganj district’s Baghela village. 15 years ago, his parents passed away. Before resorting to small-time criminality, he had previously been a street beggar for some years. He was taken into custody and charged with murdering a railway police policeman while robbing a waggon.
His aunt, Atiq Ahmed murder Laxmi Maurya, stated: “He left home a long time ago. We were unaware of his activities for all those years.
Sunny’s relative, whose family resides in the Hamirpur neighbourhood of Kurara, stated: “He left home 12 years ago and never came back. In the Kurara police station, there are cases brought against him.
It’s unclear if the three suspects have ever shared a prison or if they were acquainted before. However, they cooperated on Saturday night.
According to Ramit Sharma, the police commissioner in charge of Allahabad, the suspects approached Atiq Ahmed murder and Ashraf at the entrance to Motilal Nehru Divisional Hospital while pretending to be journalists. The group appeared to have a camera and a microphone.
Sharma stated that Constable Man Singh, who also received a gunshot wound, was not in danger.

According to a police source, Luvlesh also received a bullet wound to his left hand when his two pals opened fire on Atiq Ahmed murder and Ashraf from the opposite direction. He is now a patient in the hospital.
Maurya was firing with a Zigana, a semi-automatic Turkish handgun that was illegally built in Pakistan and frequently smuggled into India, the author said, while the other two shooters used country-made pistols.
The three murderers are only tools, and the real conspirator must be sitting someplace else, according to retired police inspector Dhirendra Rai, who had previously caught Atiq Ahmed murder in a murder case in 1996.
