Judy Murray, Andy Murray’s mother, expressed her joy after her son’s 17-year wait for a challenger championship. At the Open Aix-Provence, the former World No. 1 triumphed, winning his first championship on the ATP Challenger Tour since 2005.
Despite dropping out of the Madrid Open after the opening round, Andy Murray was given a late wild card entrance into the lower-level competition. Tommy Paul was beaten by Andy Murray 2-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the ATP Challenger Tour 175 event’s championship match on Sunday, May 7. Murray’s first clay-court championship since the 2016 French Open was played in an hour-and-56-minute battle.

The ATP Challenger Tour tweeted two images of Andy Murray, one from 2005 and the other from the 2023 Provence Challenger, in response to the news, highlighting Murray’s amazing victory after an incredible 17 years and 8 months, which was the longest time between Challenger titles in history.
JudyMurray responded to the news by expressing her joy at her son’s triumph and remarking that while Andy’s physique had changed to include more muscles and less hair, his will to fight remained unwavering.

Andy Murray thanked the locals and the spectators for their steadfast support throughout the competition during the post-match on-court interview.
The supporters that came out to support this week [were] the most significant aspect, according to Murray. “The atmosphere was fantastic from the very first match to the very last. You people showed there even before the competition began, which is really crucial for these events to have local support.
You were out here observing and encouraging [during] the practise sessions. It has great significance for the players and for this tournament as well, he continued.
Murray talked about his injury issues and the difficulties he had in staging a successful comeback. He also thanked his staff for their continuous support and dedication to helping him develop his game.
My game has been a little bit of a struggle over the past year or so. But [my team] has been there for me, encouraging me and helping me strive towards improvement. From here, we continue,” Murray remarked.
