Emmy Rossum, Tom Holland’s co-star, defends
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Rossum stated that she agreed with the casting decision after reading the script. When describing Candy, the role she plays, the actress said, “She is a super young mom, she’s almost a child in her own right when she becomes pregnant at age 16.” Tom Holland is 27 years old and the lady from The Day After Tomorrow is 36.
Rossum also discussed the inspiration behind her choice to play Candy in The Crowded Room. She cited the mother-son relationship as well as “the closeness and everything that they are grieving in later episodes” as the reasons behind her decision to take on the role. Despite a 9-year age gap, her portrayal of Holland’s mother has generated some controversy on the internet.
