Actor Michael Lerner, who played characters in Clueless and Glee and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Barton Frink, has passed away. Age-wise, he was 81.
In a memorial post on Instagram, Lerner’s nephew and The Goldbergs star Sam Lerner announced that he had passed away on Saturday evening.
“Last night, we lost a legend. How clever and impactful my uncle Michael was to me is difficult to express, Sam said in her article. I’ve always been inspired by and in love with acting by his stories. The fact that he was my blood makes me feel extra special forever. He was the coolest, most self-assured, and talented person.

In both cinema and television, Lerner had a lengthy career. He received a nomination for an Academy Award in 1991 for his performance as movie mogul Jack Lipnick in Ethan and Joel Cohen’s Barton Fink. He agreed to play Cher’s father Mel Horowitz in the Clueless television adaption in 1996. In a recurring role on Glee, Lerner co-starred alongside Lea Michele as Sidney Greene, an investor working on the Broadway musical Funny Girl’s revival.
