Courthouse The Savannah Fire Department stated that the injuries weren’t life-threatening.
According to Wayne Ifill, Savannah Fire battalion chief, the employees were on the third story of the court house when a portion of that floor fell onto the second floor. Ifill continued: “The building will be shut down until the structural engineer from South Carolina gets here to assess when it’s secure to re-enter.”

Businesses nearby have been negatively impacted by the court house construction for months.
Businesses that depend on passing customers and foot traffic have been disappointed by altered traffic patterns and a lack of communication. The court house’s renovation under the government contract was planned to take a full year. The work is now anticipated to be finished in 2024, more than a year after it started.

The State Street left turn lane has been closed off since the building project started. Between State and Broughton, Whitaker Street’s eastbound lane is also closed up. Parking places on the western part of the area that has been closed off are taken up by subcontractor cars.
