Describe the Met Gala.
The Met Gala, also known as the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, is a yearly charity event held in New York City on the first Monday in May to raise money for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Simply said, the Costume Institute is the sole division of the Met that is self-sufficient, and it does this through its single yearly gala.

The event is strictly by invitation only, with just a select few A-listers from diverse sectors making the cut each year. The topic of the year, which also acts as the inspiration for that year’s Costume Institute show, is encouraged for attendees to dress accordingly.

The Costume Institute is what?
According to the museum’s website, “from the beginning of the fifteenth century to the present, the Costume Institute’s collection of more than 33,000 exhibits reflects seven centuries of fashionable clothing and accessories for men, women, and children.”
It began as the Museum of Costume Art in 1937 as a distinct entity from the museum. According to the website, “The Museum of Costume Art merged with The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1946 as The Costume Institute, and in 1959 became a curatorial department, with the financial support of the fashion industry.”
