Deadpool 3 Disney may have discovered the magical delights of R-rated flicks thanks to Ryan Reynolds. Hugh Jackman might have been raised from the dead by him. And it’s possible that he released the test video that gave the Deadpool movie its start. Reynolds, however, lacks the power necessary to put a stop to the continuing Writers’ Guild of America strike.
And even if there may be no connection between the two in any other situation, it is urgent (and self-serving) to desire for a speedy end to the strike as production on the eagerly anticipated Deadpool 3 with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman at the helm gets underway.
Amidst the WGA strike, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 suffers a setback.
With the eagerly awaited Deadpool 3, the mutant realm makes its mainstream MCU premiere, as Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Logan/Wolverine reunite. However, as Disney takes the decision for Deadpool 3 to start filming as per schedule in order to be finished by the planned 2024 premiere, the bubbling electric energy and the hardly contained enthusiasm at the idea of Deadpool’s return with his frenemy in tow has taken a huge blow.
The core issue is that Ryan Reynolds’ identity is intrinsically linked to the Deadpool IP, and without the help of his quick-witted asides made on-set, the character (and the movie) wouldn’t have been as popular. The Guild’s requirements, with the writers’ strike now ominously hanging in the background, are straightforward: as long as the strike is in effect, Reynolds cannot improvise scenes constantly during filming or add new lines to the script.
Without Ryan Reynolds working at full capacity, one can anticipate a toned-down film at the end of the tunnel as the script needs to be followed to a T. The strike forbids any additional work to be done on any script under development or in production as long as the WGA is unable to reach a fruitful resolution. Reynolds’ involvement as a writer on Deadpool 3 is currently the only source of hope, and with so much material available, there is a chance that the movie may succeed and live up to expectations.

The second union of Ryan Reynold and Hugh Jackman in the movie industry and the WGA strike, which is currently seeing the largest exodus of authors from their writers’ rooms, are intimately related. The first WGA strike, which happened in 2007–2008, happened at the same time when Reynolds and Jackman were filming their first scenes as Deadpool and Wolverine in X-Men Origins. The current Rotten Tomatoes rating for that movie is 38%.
Understanding the Strike: The Motivation for the WGA Demonstrations
The WGA strike, which was forced to begin on May 2, 2023, is intended to accomplish a number of objectives, including increased funding, pension and health benefits for every writer hired by the Guild, job stability, and a restriction on the use of artificial intelligence in the writers’ room. All writers employed by the Guild and working for the Hollywood studios must cease operations as long as the strike is underway and the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are unable to achieve a fair and satisfying resolution.
The Writers Guild reportedly announced on April 27 that “Writers cannot do any writing, revising, pitching, or discussing future projects with companies that are members of the AMPTP.” This was in case discussions failed before May 1 and the strike went through.
The strike consequently has an impact on all ongoing projects, even those that are scheduled and ready to launch at major studios like Marvel and Disney.
The release date of Deadpool 3 is set for November 8, 2024.
