The song will probably be played on the recently released HBO drama series The Idol, which stars TheWeeknd and Lily Rose Depp and features the singer in the role of Tedros, a self-help guru and cult leader. One of the inspirations for the idea of the programme, its themes, and the character of Tedros came from TheWeeknd.
Following PlayboiCarti’s musical career
Jordan Terrell Carter, best known by his stage name Playboi Carti, was born on September 13, 1996, and the rapper says in an exclusive interview with Fader that he first became interested in music after having a disagreement with his football coach:
“I’ve always desired to accomplish more than I had been. I used to bring a skateboard to basketball practise. I aspired to be like Terry Kennedy and Allen Iverson.
Later in the interview, the rapper went into further detail about how his prolonged studio time affected his academics:
“I was in a class with freshmen finishing their assignments, and I had nine assignments to finish in order to graduate. My family wasn’t even there because no one was sure if I would graduate.
While still in high school, the rapper started using the stage name Sir Cartier to make music. But it wasn’t until he met the rapper and producer Ethereal of Awful Records that he learned about Atlanta’s DIY rap movement, which helped him gain more SoundCloud followers.
With the release of their third mixtape, Playboi Carti, on April 14, 2017, the singer achieved his first chart success. The mixtape reached its highest point at positions 12 on the Billboard 200 album list and 28 on the Canadian album chart.
Die Lit, Playboi Carti’s debut studio album, was released on May 11, 2018. The album was a huge hit, reaching its highest point on the Billboard 200 album list at number three. His breakthrough album, which peaked at number 27 on the charts for New Zealand, the UK, and Australia as well as number 49, was also released internationally.
The singer followed up the success of his debut album by releasing Whole Lotta Red, his second studio album, on December 25, 2020. The album reached its highest point at number two on the Canadian album chart and at the top of the Billboard 200 album list.
