In HBO’s “The Idol,” which debuted on Sunday night, Lily Rose Depp plays pop singer Jocelyn, taking on her greatest role to date.
Lily Rose Depp Says She Loves Abel So Much After The Weeknd
Depp, who has experience with fame having grown up in the spotlight in Hollywood, claims that she was drawn to “The Idol” because it explores the wild and insane world of the music business.
“As soon as I heard about this initiative, I was quite intrigued. We don’t often get to witness the world that it was exploring with all of the craziness and chaos that occurs, according to Depp. She continues, “Jocelyn is a pop star who is constantly surrounded by people she’s unsure of whether she can trust.”
Lily Rose Depp lauded Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, who is the co-creator and executive producer of the show, in a post-show discussion that HBO aired following the first episode on Sunday.
“I love Abel so much,” Depp exclaims. It is quite challenging for anyone to do what he was able to do: “melt into this role.”
The Weeknd plays Tedros, Jocelyn’s love interest in “The Idol,” who is a shadowy and unsettling head of a contemporary cult. In the first episode, Tedros and Jocelyn hook up in a stairway before she invites him to her place and the two start a complicated romance. Tedros suffocates Jocelyn with her red silk robe before cutting a hole over her mouth with a knife as a symbol of, what he claims, is expressing her trust in him. This happens at the end of the episode.
Regarding the interaction between the two characters, Depp comments, “He offers her a freedom that she hasn’t felt in a while.”
“The Idol” was co-created by The Weeknd, Reza Fahim, and Sam Levinson, the minds behind HBO’s smash hit “Euphoria.” After finishing the second season of “Euphoria,” Levinson claims he got a call to go to The Weeknd’s place, where they began discussing the idea for the programme. Jocelyn’s mansion in “The Idol” is actually The Weeknd’s residence in Los Angeles, fun tidbit.
“The Idol” is “about an artist who feels stuck, who also feels pressured by the expectations of the world at large and is trying to figure out who she is and what she wants to say,” according to Levinson. He continues, “Part of what this show is about is having a little bit more scepticism about celebrities we ultimately idolise.”
Levinson exclaims, “I’m incredibly proud of how we made this show.
Levinson called performers he had never collaborated with previously but who he had always liked to complete his ideal cast. The cast of “The Idol” features Troye Sivan, Eli Roth, Rachel Sennot, Dan Levy, Jane Adams, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in addition to K-Pop sensation Jennie from the band Blackpink.
Regarding his interactions with the ensemble while filming, Levinson says, “We all have a great dynamic and a loose one and a fun one.” We have a screenplay, but they are simply riffing and joking around… We had a cast that was very amazing. It was intriguing to observe how life plays out since they had a genuine trust for one another as actors.
One scene in the first episode shows Jocelyn practising with her dancers, one of whom is played by Jennie, a triple threat in real life.
During the HBO post-show, Jennie quips, “I didn’t have a lot of time to master the choreography for the dancing scenes. Fortunately, I regularly do this, so it came naturally to me.
“The Idol” has already generated a lot of buzz before its premiere and will undoubtedly keep doing so after the first episode. However, the cast claims that as the season progresses, viewers won’t anticipate what happens.
Regarding the characters played by Depp and The Weeknd, Randolph asserts that “as the season progresses, there is definitely chess being played between the two of them.” “This is a ride,” Sennot continues. It takes you in a different direction than you anticipate.
