On Monday, Angelina Jolie paid tribute to her late mother in support of World Ovarian Cancer Day and advised women to have routine exams.
A day before Marcheline Bertrand’s 73rd birthday, the Hollywood A-lister posted a childhood picture of herself and her mother on Instagram. Angelina Jolie captioned the post. In 2007, Bertrand died.
“She died after a protracted battle with breast and ovarian cancer 15 years ago. I shall pass the age at which she was diagnosed in June,” the 47-year-old actor stated.
“My mom loved [Jimi] Hendrix,” she added. And always inscribed Kiss the Sky as her letterhead. After she died, it acquired a new significance. I’m sending my love and strength to everyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, as well as to those who are now battling for their life.
The star, who is a mother, noted that despite having had preventative surgery in the past, she still has frequent examinations. Breast and ovarian cancer were both treated for a decade before Angelina Jolie mother passed away at age 56. Her grandmother passed away from cancer in her 40s, and her aunt passed away from breast cancer at the age of 61, the same year Jolie underwent a double mastectomy.
According to the Mayo Clinic, breast cancer is most frequently seen in women and is generally detected by changes in a breast’s size, shape, or appearance. Ovarian cancer, which is likewise brought on by uncontrolled cell proliferation, has less obvious symptoms. Both are lethal.
