This Sunday, April 23, on ABC, the top 20 finalists from American Idol season 21 were finally revealed after a fierce competition. Wé Ani was the last performer named as one of the top 20 competitors after six singers were removed. She wowed the crowd with a dynamic rendition of Adele’s “Skyfall,” and nearly all of the judges expressed their admiration for her.
Judge Katy Perry, though, appeared more astonished than delighted. She acknowledged that the outcomes and the “dramatic” song had “shook” her. Perry continued:
“There’s so much drama going through my body right now, I need to take a nap.”
Elijah McCormick, a competitor who was removed after Ani’s name was released, has a lot of support from Perry. On Chris Janson’s Good Vibes, Katy had applauded his performance from the previous week, and it appeared that she was sad that Elijah, the recipient of the platinum ticket, was unable to advance in the competition. In addition, Katy admired Malik Heard, whom she said to as a “natural star on stage.”
She made the observation that the votes were being cast in America but said nothing about or in favour of Wé’s performance.
You aren’t using your voice if you don’t vote, too. Your favourites are not secure. Vote for the individuals you want to see in the Top 12 going forward.
Fans of American Idol were outraged by Katy’s comments and reminded her that she had no control over the outcome. They also thought that she should apologise to Wé Ani for not giving her more praise for her performance.
#AmericanIdol Katy Perry needs to apologize to We Ani immediately! So dismissive because she didn’t get her choice ! It’s called American Idol for a reason it’s America’s choice not yours!

American Idol viewers criticise judge Katy Perry for disparaging Wé Ani, asking “Why is Katy shocked at the results”
Ani, 24, has consistently demonstrated her ability and abilities. During the opening round of Hollywood Week, she sang her own song, “Good For,” to much acclaim from judge Lionel Richie, who described her as “amazing.”
The judges were blown away by her initial voice, which is completely different from her singing voice now. Wé finished third in season 11 of The Voice when she was just 17 years old.
Fans of American Idol praised Katy Perry for calling Ani a “backhand insult” and praised her performance on the programme. Here are a few tweets to look at:
why is Katy shocked at the results ? why TF are they saying this after We’s performance as if they felt she shouldn’t have gone through ?? WTF #weani #AmericanIdol

Sorry non #AmericanIdol📷 watchers, but here I go again. @katyperry just backhand insulted the last contestant to get through, We Ani. Her performance was impeccable. Sorry one of your favs didn't get through but throwing a backhand insult at this young lady was uncalled for.

Katy Perry spoke personally on a different contender this season.
Sara Beth, 25, admitted during her performance that she had three children. Sara Beth felt anxious during this year’s American Idol auditions. After hearing this, Katy expressed disbelief and said the singer was “laying on the table too much”:
“I believe I will faint if Katy lies on the table. You’ve been lying on the table much too much, honey.
In a video she posted on Tik-Tok, Sara—who subsequently left the programme to focus on her kids—said it was “embarrassing to have that on TV.” She added as well
“It caused me pain. Mom-shaming, in my opinion, is so pathetic, and I think that women supporting and elevating other women is so awesome.
