Tucker Carlson Fox News said in a shocking statement that Monday that it had broken ties with right-wing extremist Tucker Carlson. Carlson exploited his position as host of the talk network’s prime time programme to impose a tight control over the Republican Party.
In a brief statement, Fox News simply noted, “We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” noting only that his final broadcast was on Friday, April 21.
Multiple requests for comment were not answered by Carlson, the most popular personality on Fox News. According to a person familiar with the situation, Lachlan Murdoch, the CEO of Fox Corporation, and Suzanne Scott, the CEO of Fox News, decided to break ways with Carlson on Friday evening.
A second individual with knowledge of the situation stated that Carlson was notified of the choice on Monday morning.
The announcement comes a week after Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems reached a massive defamation settlement of $787.5 million regarding the network’s spread of election hoaxes. The lawsuit had made Carlson’s criticism of his coworkers public. His now-fired top booker, Abby Grossberg, highlighted many claims of misogyny on his show in a complaint she filed in March.
Carlson rose to become one of the most important characters in the GOP during his tenure as a Fox News prime-time anchor. After his arraignment in New York earlier this month, Republican politicians knelt at his feet, and former President Donald Trump gave him the first interview.
Carlson rose to fame in recent years by being a leading proponent of extremist rhetoric and conspiracy theories. Not only did he constantly cast doubt on the validity of the 2020 election, but he also raised white supremacist talking themes and pushed conspiracies concerning the Covid-19 vaccinations.
The Anti-Defamation League’s Jonathan Greenblatt applauded Fox News’ decision, saying it was “about time” and that Carlson had “used his primetime show to spew antisemitic, racist, xenophobic, and anti-LGBTQ hate to millions” for “far too long.”
According to sources inside the network who spoke, several of Carlson’s internal detractors cheered when they heard the news. There is “a lot of relief generally, surprise they had the nerve to do it, and hope for a culture change,” one employee said.

However, it’s unlikely that Fox News would veer too far from the right-wing discussion that its devoted viewers tune in for every night. The network said that rotating hosts will temporarily cover Carlson’s 8 p.m. time slot. On hearing the news, Fox Corp. (FOXA) stock dropped 5%. The stock had increased a little before the news.
a renowned conspiracist
Carlson played a significant role in Dominion’s massive defamation case against Fox News, which the parties settled for an unprecedented $787 million last week just before trial.
Only one of the 20 allegedly defamatory Fox broadcasts referenced in the complaint originated from Carlson’s top-rated show, thus in some senses Carlson had an outsized role in the dispute. But he was scheduled to give testimony during the trial as one of Dominion’s first witnesses. Additionally, the national impact of his private text conversations that were made public as part of the lawsuit.
Dominion obtained Carlson’s group chat with Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham, two other prominent Fox primetime hosts, as well as a wealth of additional communications during the time leading up to the 2020 election.
According to these emails, Carlson confided in friends that he “passionately” despised former President Donald Trump and thought Trump’s time in office was a “disaster.” He also disparaged pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell in sexist terms, rejecting her views regarding the 2020 race while they were being discussed on Fox News.
Additionally, in a string of texts made public in Dominion’s defamation action, Carlson disparaged the leaders of the right-wing network.
Two days after the 2020 election, on November 5, Carlson texted his producer Alex Pfeiffer to say: “We worked incredibly hard to establish what we have. They are damaging our reputation, they f-ckers. It makes me angry.
The two looked to be talking about the network’s coverage of the 2020 election, which had just accurately predicted that Joe Biden would win the crucial state of Arizona, angering the network’s pro-Trump viewers.
On November 6, Carlson subsequently added to Pfeiffer: “A combination of incompetent liberals and top leadership with too much pride to back down is what’s happening.” One day later, Fox and other media sites predicted that Biden would win the presidency.
On November 8, Carlson said in a different sequence of tweets: “Do the execs realise how much credibility and trust we’ve lost with our audience? We really are playing with fire.
The complaint made clear that Carlson’s private beliefs did not align at all with his public persona. Regarding Carlson’s departure from Fox, a spokeswoman for Dominion declined to comment.
The Fox primetime host has used his enormous platform in the two years since the attack on the US Capitol to promote flimsy theories that the attack was a false-flag operation planned by the FBI and government agents who despise Trump and that the criminal rioters were actually the victims.
The unfounded hypothesis first appeared on a right-wing website, and Carlson constantly discussed it on his show, which propelled it into the public eye. He frequently said that Republican supporter and Capitol rioter Ray Epps was an FBI provocateur who started the violent riot.
Epps stated regarding Carlson’s falsehoods in a “60 Minutes” interview that aired on Sunday night: “He’s fascinated with me. He will use every means necessary to endanger my life and our lives.
In March, a legal demand for a retraction for “false and defamatory statements” made against his client, Epps, was issued to Fox News by his attorney. Carlson never expressed regret on-air.
Just a few months ago, Carlson’s misinformation campaign concerning January 6 peaked, with help from the recently seated House Speaker, Republican from California Kevin McCarthy.
The top-rated Fox presenter was able to secure and broadcast previously unreleased material from Capitol security cameras, but the recordings were manipulated and cherry-picked. Prior to airing the information, he claimed on his programme to have run the tapes past the US Capitol Police, but they refuted this.

Allegations from behind the scenes
In recent litigation, former Fox News producer Grossberg, who has since distanced himself from the organisation, said that the staff of Tucker Carlson’s show was rife with sexism and bigotry. She filed a lawsuit against Fox News, Carlson, his executive producer Justin Wells, and other individuals last month in addition to Fox’s parent company.
Grossberg, who joined Carlson’s crew after the 2020 election, said in her complaint that during her first day on the job, “it became apparent how pervasive the misogyny and drive to embarrass and objectify women was among the male staff at TCT,” where TCT is short for “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”
According to court documents, the claims also assert that Grossberg informed Wells of some of the “inappropriate and harassing conduct” that she had to put up with while working at the programme, but that he “brushed aside” her worries.
Fox News is tenaciously defending itself against two lawsuits from Grossberg. The complaints, according to a Fox representative, are “riddled with false allegations against the network and our employees.”
Grossberg said in a complaint submitted last month that Carlson “was very capable of using such disgusting language about women in the workplace.” She mentioned some of Carlson’s private messages to colleagues that were made public in the Dominion case, in which he referred to Sidney Powell, a leading 2020 election sceptic, as “c-nt” in those texts.
Additionally, according to her claims, there were sexually explicit posters around the office, Wells asked her “uncomfortable sexual questions” regarding her former Fox News boss Maria Bartiromo, and there were internal discussions about which female politicians were “more f-kable.”
She said on television that the sexual harassment was so severe that she had pondered committing herself.
According to Grossberg’s claim, Wells was fully aware of the significant influence he and Carlson had on GOP politics. She cited a November 2022 editorial gathering when Wells reportedly stated that they had “the power to select the 2024 GOP presidential candidate” and a January gathering where he allegedly stated that Carlson intended to “save the Republican Party” by ending the protracted intraparty conflict over the House speakership.
Following the network’s breakup with right-wing bomb thrower Dan Bongino, who had been a frequent feature on the network’s programming in addition to presenting a weekend show, Carlson left Fox News.
Bongino announced on Rumble, “Folks, regretfully, last week was my last show on Fox News on the Fox News Channel,” attributing his departure to a contractual disagreement.

This wasn’t some sort of WWE-style battle that took place. Simply put, we were unable to agree on an extension. That’s all there is to it.
In a statement, Fox News said in response, “We thank Dan for his contributions and wish him success in his future endeavours.”
