Jamal Murray is nearly back to his NBA Bubble performances during the playoffs.

You’ve probably heard the adage “the Nuggets need Jamal Murray to be ‘Bubble Jamal Murray’ if they are to come out of the Western Conference this season” if you watch the NBA generally or at least keep up with the Denver Nuggets.

Two questions are raised by this assertion. Who is Bubble Jamal Murray, exactly? Why is he so crucial to the Nuggets’ achievement? The most crucial question is whether the Nuggets’ star guard can meet that lofty bar throughout the postseason based on what we’ve seen thus far.

“Bubble Jamal Murray” – who is he?

Murray reestablished himself as a human flamethrower when the NBA resumed play following its four-month COVID-19 layoff. He went on a record scoring run that helped his Nuggets reach their first conference finals appearance since 2009.

No player in league history has had a larger boost in their regular season scoring average in the playoffs than Jamal Murray, according to the Sunday night TNT broadcast of the Nuggets’ Game 4 first-round showdown against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jamal Murray averaged 16.9 PPG throughout the regular season during his whole career. In contrast, during the playoffs, that average soars to 24.4 PPG.

In spite of the heightened roughness and intensity of the playoffs, Jamal Murray is one of the few players whose scoring actually rises, and his legendary run in the 2020 playoffs is the ideal example of that.

Why is he so important to Denver?
